IBM Project Big Green is a $1 billion investment to dramatically increase the efficiency of IBM products. New IBM products and services, announced as part of Project Big Green, include a five step approach to energy efficiency in the data center that, if followed, will sharply reduce data center energy consumption and transform clients' technology infrastructure into “green” data centers, with energy savings of approximately 42 percent for an average data center.
Cisco On June 25th, Cisco announced that it has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its worldwide operations by 25 percent over the next four years, reaching its goal in absolute terms by 2012. The company will deploy a unique multiprong approach focused on the power of technology to meet its objectives and to demonstrate how customers can do the same.
EMC Going green does not mean going broke. Users of EMC report increasing storage capacity without increasing operation cost. EMC’s efforts to deliver increased storage density while achieving energy savings and maintaining required performance have resulted in measurable benefits for their customers.
Data Domain “Customers everywhere are heavily impacted by the growth of data,” said Beth White, Vice President of Product Marketing for Data Domain. “In certain regions and cities, data center power requirements are outstripping power grid capabilities to the point where some data centers are even being forced to move. Storage represents a significant portion of a data center’s overall power drain, so data deduplication’s “green-effect” is pivotal. Data Domain technology is exceptionally green because redundant data is eliminated before it is ever stored to disk. Fewer disks means less cooling, less power consumption and less footprint. We’re really pleased to be part of The Green Grid effort and look forward to collaborating with both industry peers and The Green Grid to help guide end users toward more power efficient application of storage technologies.”
